Are you in favour of keeping Luxfords Field as a green open space abou the same size as now?
Do you think Luxfords Field could be improved? What improvements would you have in mind?
Do you support the proposed changes to Luxfords Field?

Do you support the proposed changes to Luxfords Field? We should still have a green space in the middle of the town and it certainly should not be any smaller than it is now - if anything we need more. They seem to have done away with the playground - please put it back better than it is now. A section with trees and flowers would be nice, but we still want space for the fair and all the other events that go on now. This should be the heart of the town not the Tesco development. It just looks like it has been tacked on to what they want to do and is not integrated into the town.

If we didn't have a green space like Luxford Field, where would the funfair go, or the Big Day Out for the Festival?
I'd like to see a few flower borders too, and a few seats and litter bins.

Do you support the proposed changes to Luxfords Field? Why do we need an all-weather football pitch to take up what looked like over half of the green space left on Luxfords, when there are adequate facilities a short distance away in West Park. Holy Cross certainly don't need that sort of facility, although it does need open space for the children. Seems like another back-door route to remove facilities for schools to give the town something it has no real need for. Can the Town Council indicate how much call there has been for tennis courts and such, to justify the other propsed change in this area. No. My view is that we need Luxford Field to be almost the same size as now for all the town festivals, and with better playground facilities for our youngsters.

Some borders and an improved play area would be beneficial although maintenance seems to be an issue.
It has always been a focal point for activities in the town and should remain so.
The All Weather playing field should be located away from the town centre. I was under the impression it was agreed it would go behind the Leisure centre which seems a more appropriate location as they already have changing facilities etc. This facility will create its own parking, noise and light polution problems.

Please remember that the proposal was by St. James Investments/Tesco, not the Town Council - so the usage of the tennis courts this year (which has been significantly up on previous years) really had no bearing on why they put the all-weather pitch where they did.

Why an all weather pitch? More blinking football.
Why not an athletics track and field?
Surely with 2012 coming up we need to think of a bigger picture than kicking a ball about.

Which is why I posed the question as to what call there had been for these facilities. If there is no call or they can be accomodated elsewhere in the town, then SJI should not have included them in their proposals.

The town has been identified as having less than desirable sports facilities in the Wealden District plan. SJI include this so they can help the council fulfil the requirements of the plan at low or nil cost. This in turn "helps" Wealden planning department to look positively at the proposal.

Surely the leisure centre by definition is the best place for sports facilities and could be upgraded in light of 2012. Luxord Field is a community space and should remain so. The Big Day OUt, Fiesta Day, The Fun Fair, are important to the community. Infact we should be encouraging more of these events to bring the town together. The field needs to be the size it is and accessable to all. Also what about the Farmers Market? If the bottom car park goes where do they go - in Tescos underground carpark? ?
