The best place to keep with this subject is at home.clara.net/wealdenline/The short answer is "not yet." It's accepted as being technically possible but the latest report suggests that the business case doesn't stack up. The business case is good though - it's just the way some people choose to look at it.

It is obvious to everyone that a rail link would be a good idea and would be well used. I am not sure why those in power can not see this. Who stands to gain from it not happening? Who is blocking this?

The only ones who could possibly "gain" anything is ESCC, who apparently have a road scheme that they want to impose and will use the track bed thus stopping it dead in its tracks (pardon the pun) As for who's blocking it, from the reports I have read that would appear to be the governments conditions placed on the report that everyone who has a vested interest in the reopening indicate was far too narrow and indeed has controls that would appear to be anti-public transport initiatives because it penalises projects that take cars off the road !!
