Do you think the town would benefit from having a central town square?
Where do you think a town square should be?

I think a town square could be nice - with a proper focal point, perhaps - not just a big empty square.
I suppose you could use it for markets, or charity events.
Not sure where I'd put it though - although it might make sense to have it visible from the High Street.

Why not knock down some of the shops in the High Street (White Rails) and have that as a big entrance to a new town centre complete with town square? It could then actually be part of the High Street,

Is White Rails the bit up near the post office? If you got rid of the shops and put the town square there, could we have a big fountain or somethink?

A town square would be nice to have and could be used as a focal point for town activities in a similar way to the way Luxford field is used.
It would also be nice if the council invested some money in the High Street infrastructure and perhaps paid for the cleaning and restoration of some of the listed buildings that are falling into disrepair.
I hate these leading questions. In the end it will show that the majority think that a town square would be a benefit. That can then be reworded slightly to say that the majority "Support" the idea of a town square.

The white rail idea sounds good if we really need a town square. Central, accessible and usable without loosing any green space or parking. I dont fancy sitting outside tescos looking at a main road as is suggested on their plan. I also agree our listed buildings should be being preserved rather than more buildings created.

I think White Rails would be a good area for a town square.
I would also like to see a new War Memorial placed somewhere more visible in the town.
Any development in the town must be for the benefit of the town and not a 'bribe' for some big conglomerate to throw its weight around. This town needs to regain some identity, respect its older buildings, its residents and show pride in its history. (Lord Lucan excepting!!!)

I am against a Town Square because although it might be pleasant during the daytime, it is likely to be exactly the opposite of that at night-time. The lack of adequate policing won't help either.
