Do you think that the car parks proposed by Tesco are adequate and in the right place?
Where do you think additional parking should be located?
Would you object to the building of either an underground car park or a multi-storey car park in the town?

I don't like where Tesco want to put the new car park - it's right at the top of town. What about parents with buggies and small kids, or older people - how are they going to like trudging all the way up to the top of the town to park?!
Not sure I'd want to see a great concrete monstrosity of a multi-storey car park either!

Looking at the plans a large number of car parking spaces will disappear from Luxford Car park behind the telephone exchange. The only spaces that will be free (at this time) will be the area behind the Luxford Day Centre. As we know Tesco have a camera on the entrance to their current car park which takes pictures of each car to ensure people visiting the town or working in it dont park in it for too long. Where are all the office and shop staff going to park? After 9am in the morning the current free car parks are full apart from a few spaces behind Luxford.

SJI/Tesco say the parking will be free for up to 3 hours, therefore adding to the free parking in the town. Nobody added that Tesco will be free to change the rules at any point if they choose

Tesco may be Free for up to 3 hours but will they insist this is for customers only? At the presentation I was told that the Luxford car park would remain free of charge however I fail to see how the developers can forsee the actions on Wealden district council who have already budgeted for the equipment for pay and display. How is a smaller car park considered to be "Extended". The spaces behind the exchange will likely be allocated for the proposed residential building. As has been pointed out the remaining part of the car park is the part furthest from the High Street.

As I recall, didn't Tesco change it to 90 minutes free parking nearer to Christmas?
We all know Wealden want to charge for parking... and what about parking for disabled people? Where's that going to be?

What Uckfield really needs is adequate commuter parking near to the station. The current number of spaces is woefully inadequate and a large number of people (myself included) drive to Buxted instead. There are shortly to be restrictions imposed at Buxted which will make the overall parking space shortage even more evident.
If more people can park at Uckfield station then more people will use the town's amenities. This would also demonstrate support for the Wealden Line extension from Uckfield to Lewes - which would also bring more trade to the town.

I dont see why the railway company hasn't already opened up the old station site and made a massive car park along the side of the old track bed. You could get a good 100 cars on the site atleast.

I agree. Maybe I'm being cynical but the land's worth more as a building site and once they've established it as a carpark they won't be able to get "change of use" to build there.

Well there is space to have a car park and room from a new station building. If they bothered to plan ahead they could mark out the space where they want to build and open a car park now.
PRIME LAND BEING WASTED...

buxtedcommuter, How much would you be prepared to pay to park in a car park next to Uckfield Station?

We have a free carpark at the moment that is always full. How can taking the major part of it away and having just the top car park help the high street shops ? The Tesco carpark will be for tesco only. I agree the land by the thingy and bull could be used as a car park for the moment while they sort out reopening the line.

You can't just keep expanding and expanding and think that you can cope with it by bigger car parks, and bigger supermarkets and bigger this and more of that.
At some point, surely, someone will realise that you need to stop expanding and trying to cram more and more into one place. The more people and communities are pushed together, the more trouble and strife their will be. And where is the investment in adequate policing to cope with it?
Uckfield used to be a pleasant mid-Sussex town. Now it looks like those in charge have the intention is to expand it ad-infinitum and ruin it as an enjoyable place to live.
